SIM Not Supported (iPhone)

Modified on Mon, 29 Sep at 4:20 PM

If you are using an iPhone handset and you have received an error messages such as "Invalid SIM" or "SIM Not Supported", this may indicate that your device has not been fully unlocked (to accept SIMs / eSIMs from alternative service providers).

The error message may also state that "the SIM is not supported under the activation policy" and that it is "not a hardware issue with the iPhone" as shown in the example below -

To resolve the issue, you may need to contact the previous service provider the device was linked to so that you can arrange for your phone to be fully unlocked.

Please note we do not have access to unlocking codes (referred to as “Network Unlock Codes” or “Subsidy Passwords” etc) and so these must be obtained from the previous service provider.

If your phone has been fully unlocked but you are still receiving this message, you may be required to reset the network settings on your device.

On the majority of iPhone handsets, you can complete this step by going to:

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
(or)
Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings > Confirm

If the issue still persists however, you may need to contact Apple support to request additional instructions or contact the service provider the device was previously linked to again.
