Outbound Calls & SMS Text Messages

Modified on Wed, 1 Oct at 12:45 PM

When using a Voice+Data SIM / eSIM or a Voice Lite SIM / eSIM to place an outbound call or send an outbound SMS text message, it's important that you use the correct dialing procedure.

The dialing instructions for calls and texts can vary and so for additional information, please refer to the relevant guide below -

You have been assigned a Japanese phone number and so when you are placing a call to another Japanese phone number, simply enter the standard phone number (including the leading zero and the area code).

You can also use the same dialing procedure when sending SMS Text Messages to other Japanese phone numbers.

For instructions on how to view the usage rates for any outbound calls or texts, please visit the following link: Usage Rates Guide

If you are using a physical Voice+Data SIM card and you are unable to place a call (and you have confirmed that you are using the correct dialing procedure), please check that your device supports VoLTE and ensure the VoLTE feature is enabled. If any issues persist however, please visit the following link: VoLTE Troubleshooting Guide

To call an international phone number, please use the prefix of: 0063

The 0063 prefix would then be followed by the Country Code (of the country you are calling to) and then you would enter the Area Code (with the leading zero removed if there is one) and the rest of the Phone Number.

0063 > Country Code > Area Code (with leading zero removed) > Phone Number

If you do not know the country code (of the country you are calling to) we provide a list of country codes at the following link: Country Codes

0063 Prefix:

When using a physical Voice+Data SIM Card or a Voice Lite SIM / eSIM, international calls can be placed using the standard international dialing procedure (by entering a "+" symbol followed by the country code, area code and phone number) instead of the 0063 prefix.

On most handsets, you can enter a plus symbol by pressing and holding the zero (until the zero changes to a +), by pressing the * key twice in quick succession or just by selecting the + from the list of symbols.

If you use this method however, calls will be chargeable at an increased rate (please check the Usage Rates link for additional information) and so to keep costs down, we would always recommend using the 0063 prefix for international calls.

VoLTE Feature:

If you are using a physical Voice+Data SIM Card or a Voice Lite SIM / eSIM and you are unable to place a call (and you have confirmed that you are using the correct dialing procedure), please check that your device supports VoLTE and ensure the VoLTE feature is enabled on your device.

If any issues persist however, please visit the following link: VoLTE Troubleshooting Guide

SMS Messages:

When sending SMS text messages to international phone numbers, a different dialing procedure must be used. For additional instructions, please refer to the "Outbound SMS Messages" guide below.
