While in Japan
If you are in Japan and need to call a local Japanese phone number, you can use the normal dialing procedure. Just start with the standard prefix (such as 070, 080 or 090) followed by the rest of the Japanese phone number.
If you are in Japan and need to call an international phone number however, you will be required to enter a 0063 prefix which would be followed by the Country Code (of the country you are calling to) and then you would enter the Area Code (with the leading zero removed if there is one) and the rest of the Phone Number.
0063 > Country Code > Area Code (with leading zero removed) > Phone Number
Please note that once your plan has been activated, it can take 24-48 hours for the 0063 international dialing method to become functional.
If you do not know the country code (of the country you are calling to) we provide a list of country codes at the following link: Country Codes

Outside of Japan (Roaming)
If you have activated the roaming add-on (as explained here) and wish to use the calling feature while outside of Japan, you may need to revert back to using a standard international dialing procedure.
You can do this by entering a plus symbol (+) followed by the Country Code (of the country you're calling to) and then you would enter the Area Code (with the leading zero removed if there is one) and Phone Number.
Plus Symbol (+) > Country Code > Area Code (with leading zero removed) > Phone Number
On most handsets, you can enter a plus symbol by pressing and holding the zero (until the zero changes to a +), by pressing the * key twice in quick succession or just by selecting the + from the list of symbols.
If you're calling a Japanese phone number for example, you would dial +81 followed by the rest of the number (with the leading zero removed). If you were calling a U.S. phone number, you would dial +1 followed by the area code and phone number.
If you do not know the country code (of the country you are calling to) we provide a list of country codes at the following link: Country Codes
If this dialing method fails however, you may need to replace the plus symbol (+) with the "Exit Code" for the country you're calling from. In most of Europe for example, the exit code is 00 or in the US, the exit code is 011. If you do not know the exit code for the country you're calling from, you may need to check online or contact us for support.

Outgoing SMS Messages:

If you're sending an SMS message to another Japanese phone number, you should be able to use the normal dialing procedure. Just start with the standard prefix (such as 070, 080 or 090) followed by the rest of the Japanese phone number.
When sending an SMS text message to an international phone number however, you will likely be required to enter a plus symbol (+) followed by the Country Code (of the country the message is being sent to) and then you would enter the Area Code and Phone Number (with the leading zero removed if there is one).
If you do not know the country code (of the country you're sending the message to) we provide a list of country codes at the following link: Country Codes

If this dialing method fails however, you can also try replacing the plus symbol (+) with the "Exit Code" for the country you're sending the message from. In most of Europe for example, the exit code is 00 or in the US, the exit code is 011. If you do not know the exit code for the country you're calling from, you may need to check online or contact us for support.
Additional Note (SMS Character Limits):
While in Japan, the SMS character limit will be 160 characters. Messages over this character limit can still be sent but the message will be split into multiple SMS messages (and an SMS fee will apply for each message that's sent). While outside of Japan however, the character limit will decrease to 70 characters (and any messages over this limit will fail to send).
